Hey everyone. Welcome back from Spring Break. We are working on getting ready for EOG’s and starting a new science unit. We are now learning about bones and muscles. This is a great unit and we plan on having lots of fun. Look below for our class “poster” about bones.

We are on our way into spring and I can’t believe how fast time has gone. We have one week to prepare and review for our third quarterly classscape assessments. We will be going over fractions, geometry and learning about measurement.

For science we continue to learn about soil. We are learning about the qualities of soil, what makes up soil, what size particles soil has, and different types of soil. We are also learning about how much water soil holds and how different soils grow different plants.

In our language arts and writing time we will be making fold a persons and working on writing biographies with Ms. Allsbrook. Students will be interviewing each other and using a paper doll of themselves to put the finished biography in. This will be a great activity and we are excited about it.

Hello everyone. This week we are starting to review to get ready for the EOG’s and we are learning geometry. Students will be working on vocabulary such as word names for shapes two and three-dimensional, as well as lines, angles and rays.

In science we are into our soil unit. We are using our new nature trail to explore and learn about the different types of soil in our area and what qualities they have. The kids love this unit and the weather is looking up for this adventure. I hope to get the kids to learn about soil, sand, and clay and the differences between them.

Remember our talent show is coming up. We are looking forward to seeing some students from class perform this Friday at THS at 6:30pm. Hope to see you there. On another note I have noticed our school has experienced some children sick with the flu. The H1N1 flu is out there so please take care. I plan on keeping things clean in our classroom. Let me know if your child is starting to feel sick or not feeling well. We want everyone to be and stay healthy!

Hello everyone. Happy Valentines Day for Feb 14th. This month we are finishing up learning about fractions. We are talking about comparing fractions and adding and subtracting fractions. We are excited about science. We are learning about soil properties and are doing several soil labs this next month or so.

Hey Everyone. Welcome back to a new year. These next few weeks we will be getting ready for the upcoming quarterly tests. We are practicing multiplication, division and adding/subtracting money. We are also learning about patterns. In science we are doing a quick study on the water cycle. We also will be studying soil as our next science unit.

Hello all,

Just a note to let everyone know what progress we have made so far in third grade. In math everyone is learning multiplication. We are starting division before Christmas break but will be starting to learn our multiplication facts too. This will last all year-long!

In science we are finishing up our earth, sun and moon system. We will be working on projects to make models of the earth, sun and moon. If anyone wants extra credit they can give me five reading responses on a non fiction book about the earth, sun and moon systems. Students who want to do reading responses on fiction need my approval.

We have worked very hard on our writing. We have written on the themes of friendship and choices. Students have learned about author’s purpose and practicing writing from a persuasion point of view.

Christmas break is very near. I wish everyone a great break and hope you all have a wonderful time with your families. Don’t forget to keep practicing your multiplication, subtraction and addition!;-)

Croft Class Notes November 1-5

Welcome to November everybody. We are now entering our second nine weeks of third grade. This nine weeks we will be exploring multiplication, division, patterns and relationships and decimals and money. Keep working on three digit addition and subtraction. We need to continue to practice our understanding of place value and addition and subtraction so we don’t forget these skills.

In science this nine weeks we are going to learn about the earth the sun and the moon. We will be keeping a moon journal and we will get to study the moon’s cycle. This is a fun unit and there is much to learn about the planets and reflected light in this unit. Keep a lookout for more information about this.

With our language arts we continue to work on grammar and spelling. We are starting to practice writing story middles as we have learned about story beginnings. Everyone likes to write so urge your child to keep a journal at home and write as often as possible.

Croft Class Notes October 25-29

We are rapidly approaching the end of October. This week we are taking our local option assessments. These tests are tools for teachers to see where our students are in the third grade curriculum. They are not graded. They do act as a good guide to help teachers teach your children.

Along with LOA’s this week we have our quail eggs hatching soon. Sometime between Monday and Wednesday we may get some chicks. We are also looking into the earth, sun and moon unit for science. Take a look at the moon with your child this week. We are starting moon journals and they will have three entries weekly due to me. Look for the journals coming home. This is a fun activity and lasts about 5 weeks. It is very important to get through at least one lunar cycle.

In math we are practicing subtraction of three digit numbers and across zeros. This type of subtraction takes lots of practice. We will also e multiplying y doing arrays and repeated addition. This will be for the rest of the year.

Feel free to contact me any time. We are very excited to e moving into our second quarter in third grade. Report cards go home soon so look for them in early November.

Croft Class Notes for Week of October 18 through 22 2010

Hello everyone. We are in for a very busy end of October this month!! This week we will be reviewing and getting ready for our quarterly assessments which will take place the week of October 25th. Students will e assessed on what they have learned this quarter. They will test on the computer and we have been practicing to get them ready. On our homework link you will find practice quizzes and a worksheet for your child to use. Look over the items with your child.

We are also continuing with our week by week essentials week number 6. We are fast approaching the end of our first nine weeks. Everyone is having a great time exploring and learning at the third grade level. Along with all the math we are also finishing up our plant unit in science. We are going to start studying the earth, sun and moon for our next science unit. We will still be finishing up plants as well. I am amazed at how much our class can juggle at one time! Look for moon journals coming soon.
